The UCD43 is a carefully vetted list of chief complaints and concerns that UC Davis School of Medicine Faculty feel are important for our graduates to know and understand in order to be able to practice medicine. This list was created by the Curriculum Implementation Team with input from numerous clinical instructors from core specialty areas and approved by the Committee on Educational Policy (CEP).
The UCD 43 is a list of common chief concerns/complaints for which patients seek medical care. Our students should be exposed to each of these concerns during pre-clerkship active learning sessions as well as during their time in the clinical setting. The goals of the pre-clerkship learning sessions will be for students to practice their clinical reasoning skills and begin to develop illness scripts for the associated conditions. This list is not meant to be comprehensive, but rather reflects a variety of common chief concerns encountered in different clinical specialties and settings.
